Projects
Encounters and relationships are approached as performative acts, working with the relationships and time that emerge from them.
Projects are developed through working with people, and space is reconfigured using fragments of photography, video, sound, and objects that record these processes.
Installations function as platforms for experiencing events and memories that arise within relationships, raising questions about fixed ways of seeing and social frameworks.

Eye to Eye visualizes a process of communication that begins by looking at one another beyond individual attributes.
Since 2022, a series of works has been developed through art projects with Colégio Sant’Ana (Sant’Ana School), a school attended by children who migrated from Brazil to Shiga, depicting the encounters and relationships born through this shared process.

브라질에서 일본 시가현으로 이주한 아이들이 다니는 산타나학원(Colégio Sant’Ana)과 함께 진행해 온 예술 프로젝트를 통해 다양한 만남과 관계를 담은 연작을 2022년부터 이어오고 있다.

“Ari, A Letter from Seongbuk-dong” is a project created in 2015 in Seongbuk-dong, where gentrification had just begun. Together with a ten-year-old girl named Ari, the artist walked through the town, observing its changes and memories.
Set against the backdrop of a Korean urban hanok district developed in the 1930s under Japanese colonial rule, Ari—dressed in an original hanbok and singing folk songs—appears as a figure connecting the past and the future. Through a photo and video installation, the work reflects on the coexistence of tradition and emerging culture, inviting contemplation on the town’s future form.
《Ari, A Letter from Seongbuk-dong》는 젠트리피케이션이 시작된 2015년 성북동을 배경으로, 열 살 소녀 아리와 함께 마을의 변화와 기억을 바라본 프로젝트이다.
1930년대에 조성된 도시한옥단지를 배경으로, 한복을 입고 민요를 부르는 아리는 과거와 미래를 잇는 존재로 등장한다.
사진과 영상 설치 작업을 통해 전통과 새로운 문화의 공존, 그리고 앞으로의 마을의 모습을 함께 생각해보도록 제안한다.
「Ari, A letter from Seongbuk-dong（アリ、城北洞からの手紙）」**は、ジェントリフィケーションが始まった2015年のソンブク洞を舞台に、10歳の少女アリとともに町を歩き、変化と記憶を見つめたプロジェクトである。
1930年代に造成された都市型韓国家屋の住宅街を背景に、アリは韓服をまとい民謡を歌いながら、過去と未来をつなぐ存在として登場する。写真と映像によるインスタレーションを通して、伝統と新しい文化の共存、そしてこれからの町のあり方を問いかける。

House to Home is a project developed around the theme of family expansion, set in the “Old House”, a renovated city hanok built more than 80 years ago.
Using furniture borrowed from residents and items such as a discarded CRT television found in the neighborhood, KIM created a shared space and invited people over three months to share meals, conversations, and a performance of taking “family photographs” based on their relationships.
The resulting installation, composed of video and photographic records, reflects on diverse forms of family and the evolving sense of community within an urban context.
《House to Home》은 80여 년 전에 지어진 도시한옥을 개조한 ‘Old House’를 무대로, ‘가족의 확장(family expansion)’을 주제로 전개된 프로젝트이다.
주민들에게서 빌린 가구와 동네에서 발견한 브라운관 TV 등을 활용해 공간을 구성하고, 3개월 동안 사람들을 초대해 함께 식사하고 대화하며 관계에 따라 역할을 정해 가족사진을 촬영하는 퍼포먼스를 진행했다.
이 과정을 기록한 설치작업은 도시 속 다양한 가족의 형태와 공동체 안에서 생성되는 관계의 확장을 성찰하는 공간이 된다.
「House to Home（ハウス・トゥ・ホーム）」は、80年以上前に建てられた都市型韓国家屋（都市韓屋）を改装した「Old House（オールドハウス）」を舞台に、“家族の拡張（family expansion）”をテーマに展開したプロジェクト。
住民から借りた家具や町で見つけたブラウン管テレビなどを用いて空間を構成し、3か月にわたり人々と食卓を囲み、関係性に応じて家族写真を撮るパフォーマンスを行った。
その記録から成るインスタレーションは、都市における多様な家族のかたちと、コミュニティの中で生まれるつながりを見つめる場となっている。

Between Breads and Noodles is a project that explores the lives and identities of Koreans who migrated to Germany. Through conversations with local communities, I redefined their identity as “Asians living in Europe,” and visualized the perspectives on Asians and their diversity within German society through performance art.
In the performance, audiences were invited to choose and taste one packet from a tower made of about 2,000 bags of instant noodles. The tower consisted of over 40 types of noodles imported from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Through this simple act of “choosing and tasting,” Europeans were encouraged to encounter, come closer to, and understand one another — a process that itself became the essence of the work.
《Between Breads and Noodles》는 독일로 이주한 코리안들의 삶과 정체성을 다룬 프로젝트이다. 현지 커뮤니티와의 대화를 바탕으로 그들의 정체성을 ‘유럽에 사는 아시아인(Asians in Europe)’으로 바라보며, 독일 사회 속 아시아인에 대한 시선과 아시아인의 다양성을 퍼포먼스를 통해 가시화했다.
퍼포먼스에서는 약 2,000개의 인스턴트라면 봉지로 쌓은 탑에서 관객이 마음에 드는 라면 하나를 골라 맛보는 행위를 구성했다. 이 탑에는 한국, 일본, 대만, 인도네시아, 베트남, 태국 등에서 수입된 40여 종의 라면이 쌓여 있다.
유럽인들이 ‘고르고, 맛보는’ 경험을 통해 서로 만나고, 거리를 좁히며, 이해해 나가는 그 과정 자체를 작품으로 제시했다.
「Between Breads and Noodles」は、ドイツに渡ったコリアンたちの生活とアイデンティティをめぐるプロジェクト。現地で出会ったコミュニティの人々との対話をもとに、彼らのアイデンティティを「ヨーロッパに暮らすアジア人」として捉え、ドイツ社会におけるアジア人への視線と、多様なアジア人像をパフォーマンスを通して可視化した。
パフォーマンスでは、約2,000袋のインスタントラーメンでつくられた塔から、観客が好きなものをひとつ選び、味わうという体験を構成した。塔には韓国、日本、台湾、インドネシア、ベトナム、タイなどから輸入された40種類以上の麺が積まれている。ヨーロッパの人々が「選び、味わう」行為を通して出逢い、互いの距離を縮め、理解し合う――その過程そのものを作品として提示した。
